“Deadly Weapon In our Bodies” by Samsul Ma’rif, S. Si

Guys, did you know that in our bodies there are deadly weapons? These weapons are produced by our digestive organs, namely the stomach. And it’s called hydrochloric acid.

Hydrochloric acid or also known as stomach acid, serves to digest food, kill germs and activate the enzyme pepsin.

Well, the problem is this hydrochloric acid has a pH of 1-3, which means including strong acids. With such a pH it is able to destroy iron and steel. Even if a sheet of aluminum foil is dipped in a hydrochloric acid solution, it will immediately emit smoke like it is burning and will soon disappear without a trace. Imagine what would happen if that happened to our stomach, to our body.

Scary right. But why do we feel just fine? It turns out that the safety device is also available in our stomach. Goblet cells in the stomach wall that produce anti-acid mucus and protect it from hydrochloric acid. And interestingly, these cells will continue to be renewed every 3-4 days in order to stay primed to protect our stomach.

Amazing right.
